Objective

You apply your basic chemistry skills and deepen your knowledge of relevant chemical phenomenon of environment and health. You get information of the safe handling of chemicals and you understand the behaviour of chemical substances in environmental processes.  You recognize the most important biological macromolecules and learn to see their importance to health and environment. You learn the biochemical reactions in human cells and environment as well as biochemical and biotechnical processes and applications. You use chemical calculation methods systematically.

Content

How do chemical substances behave when they get in to the environment? What are the safety requirements for handling of chemicals taking into account their harmful chemical and physical properties to health and environment. Where do you get information about chemical legislation and about properties of chemicals? How does metabolism function in cell? What do enzyme kinetics and metabolism of foreign substances mean in cells and in environment? How is biochemistry applied? How do you use calculation methods in chemical modeling?

Qualifications

Basic engineering chemistry or similar skills. Basics of environmental chemistry
