Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- manufacturing and construction of ship's piping, materials and components, pipework insulation and support
- observation and prevention of corrosion
- general arrangement of shipboard piping systems
- different types of pumps and their principles
- safe working procedures related to pumping and heating
- service of pipelines and related equipment
- standard drawings and symbols used for pipelines
- pipe dimensions and diameters
- physical properties of fluids in pipelines
- selection of the optimum pump on the basis of pump specific diagrams and the influence of pump control

- manufacturing of pipes and pipelines, materials and associated components
- pipe line drawings and flow diagrams
- common on-board pump types
- bilge, fire and ballast pump systems
- fresh water, sea water and wastewater systems
- heating, steam boiler and ventilation systems, lubrication and fuel systems
- pipeline sizing
- pressure loss and resistance in pipelines
- pump specific characteristic curves
- pump connections and pump control
- cavitation
