Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- making and interpreting mechanical drawings
- key drawing symbols used in technical drawings
- ISO and geometric tolerances
- producing technical drawings using the CAD program

Content

- drawing techniques in mechanical engineering
- projections
- cross sections
- dimensioning
- tolerance system
- welding and machining symbols
- basics of using a CAD-program

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- look for information in the key information sources of the field
- identify interrelated tasks
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/1 column 4 are used:
- construction and operating mechanisms can be understood and explained with drawings/instruction
- identification of important parameters for fabrication of typical ship-related components is appropriate
- use of equipment and hand tools, machine tools and measuring instruments is appropriate and safe
- safety procedures followed are appropriate
