Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- construction of electrical network and busbars
- main components of electrical network and their operation
- basics of planning and sizing of electric network
- high voltage work safety requirements

Content

- general view of ship's electrical network and operation in different situations including events of malfunction
- network protection
- general network layout
- power rating
- basic of dimensioning concerning cables and electric devices
- installation and placement methods
(STCW A-III/1 and A-III/2)

- Electric motors and generators
- Approved training during studies

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
- justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/1 column 4 are used:
- safety measures for working are appropriate
- selection and use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and testing equipment are appropriate and interpretation of results is accurate
- dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling equipment are in accordance with manuals and good practice
