Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- maintaining seaworthiness of the ship
- basics of hydrostatics
- calculating stability and trim with different cargo situations
- effect of free surface liquids to ships stability

- ship construction: principal structural members of a ship and the proper names for the various parts
- fundamentals of ship´s watertight integrity
- purpose of freeboard
- waterline agreement
- basics of the effect of free surface liquids

Students can:
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- look for information in the key information sources of the field
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code tables A-II/1, A-II/2 and A-III/1 columns 4 are used:
- the stability conditions comply with the IMO intact stability criteria under all conditions of loading
- actions to ensure and maintain the watertight integrity of the ship are in accordance with accepted practice
- stability and stress conditions are maintained within safe limits at all times
