Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- basics of programmable controllers and digital distributed systems
- function and principles of control and monitoring devices
- ship’s bridge equipment integration and control systems
- interrelationship and optimum use of all navigational data available for navigation

- operation and troubleshooting of a ship’s control systems
- structure of automation systems
- class requirements for ship automation systems
- bridge equipment integration and control systems

- Simulator training at the management level 1
- Approved training during studies

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- evaluate information sources critically
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations


In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- information obtained from navigation equipment and systems is correctly interpreted and analyzed, taking into account the limitations of the equipment and prevailing circumstances and conditions
