Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- safe loading, stowage, securing, care and unloading of cargoes in accordance with relevant international instruments
- parties and operations in the maritime supply chain
- ports and port operations
- carrier's responsibilities
- supervise the interests of the shipping company and owner during maritime transport
- interpreting and applying cargo contracts

- cargo handling management in accordance with SPCSS and other regulations
- relevant regulations, codes and standards concerning safe cargo handling
- parties in the maritime supply chain and their responsibilities
- carrier's responsibilities
- ports, operators and other stakeholders
- ship-shore interface and communication
- chartering terms and documents

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- evaluate information sources critically
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- the frequency and extent of cargo condition monitoring is appropriate to its nature and prevailing conditions
- unacceptable or unforeseen variations in the condition or specification of the cargo are promptly recognized and remedial action is immediately taken and designed to safeguard the safety of the ship and those on board
- cargo operations are planned and executed in accordance with established procedures and legislative requirements or other documents and established safety rules/regulations, equipment operating instructions and shipboard stowage limitations
