Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- compliance with legislative requirements and measures to ensure safety of life at sea, security and protection of the marine environment
- maritime law and international conventions
- certificates on board ship
- maritime insurance

- maritime law, criminal law and international conventions
- national maritime legislation
- certificates on board ship
- master’s and seafarers’ responsibilities
- owner’s responsibilities
- terminology of marine insurance
- terms and conditions of insurance in seafaring

Accomplishment methods

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- evaluate information sources critically
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- procedures for monitoring operations and maintenance comply with legislative requirements
- potential non-compliance is promptly and fully identified
- planned renewal and extension of certificates ensures continued validity of surveyed items and equipment
