Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- design of ship machinery and its functions and structures including special requirements for operations
- operating the remote controls of the propulsion plant and engineering systems and services
- manoeuvring the ship and operating deck machinery
- using the power plant of a small ship

- shaftline components, propellers and propulsors, gears, couplings.
- pressurised air systems, lubrication and fuel systems, cooling systems and ballast pump systems
- deck machinery, steering gear
- auxiliary machinery
- operating principles of marine power plants
- operation of ship machinery

Students can:
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- work as team members in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- plant, auxiliary machinery and equipment is operated in accordance with technical specifications and within safe operating limits at all times
- safe operating limits of ship propulsion, steering and power systems are not exceeded in normal manoeuvres
