Kunnossapidon muuntokoulutuksen vastuullisena toimijana on Lapin ammattikorkeakoulu. Muut koulutusta toteuttavat osapuolet ovat Kaakkois-Suomen ammattikorkeakoulu (Xamk) ja Centria sekä Oulun yliopisto.
Koulutus järjestetään toimijaosapuolten eri yksiköiden toimipisteistä käsin. Koulutus toteutetaan monimuoto-opiskeluna, jossa hyödynnetään mm. verkko-opiskelun mahdollisuuksia. Tämä mahdollistaa joustavan opiskelun asuinpaikasta riippumatta. Koulutus toteutetaan etäopetuksena arki-iltaisin sekä lähiopetusjaksoina siten, että halutessaan opintojakson toteuttava AMK järjestää omille opiskelijoilleen lähiopetustapahtuman, muiden AMKien opiskelijoiden osallistuessa etänä. Opinnoissa voidaan hyödyntää työn opinnollistamista. Opiskelijalle laaditaan henkilökohtainen opintosuunnitelma. Opiskelijalle myönnetty opinto-oikeus on 2 vuotta.
Opetus-ja kulttuuriministeriö on myöntänyt erityisavustuksen Kunnossapidon muuntokoulutukseen 20.12.2018 (- 2021). Perusteina koulutukselle ovat kunnossapitoalalla havaittu osaamisvaje sekä koulutuksen supistaminen ja osin jopa lopettaminen korkeakoulutasolla. Myönnetyllä avustuksella edistetään työllisyyttä ja työvoiman kohtaanto-ongelman helpottamista.
