Objective

Main features and operations of ships' compasses, logs, automatic controllers, echo sounders, electronic position-indicating devices, weather chart receivers and other navigational equipment. Ability to safely navigate using an integrated control system. Action taken to avoid a close encounter or collision with another vessel in accordance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Knowledge of operational principles when using ships' machinery, auxiliary machines, terminology of ships' machinery.  

Content

SatNaV systems, echo sounders, logs, compasses, weather chart receivers, hyperbolic navigation systems, radio-bearing equipment, control systems of the bridge. Electronic navigation aid systems, reliability, accuracy and error factors of the systems, ECDIS-chart, integrated bridge. Ship's main and auxiliary machines, propulsion, automation, terminology.
