Objective
This study unit aims to provide an overview of smart field devices and fieldbuses. Special attention is paid to aspects of design and implementation. Practical laboratory exercises are an essential part of this study unit. After successfully completing this study unit, the student will know how to: present process control systems based on fieldbuses realize and make commissioning of measurement, control, valve, and motor loops in programmable logic controllers (PLC), and in distributed control systems (DCS), based on fieldbuses.
Content
Field devices and control systems in networks. Configuration of fieldbuses. Siemens S7-300 and Profibus fieldbus versions DP and PA. Omron CJ1M and Profibus fieldbuses. Connecting touch panels by using fieldbuses. Controlling electric drives by using fieldbuses. Metso control systems and fieldbuses. Connecting field devices and IO interfaces by using fieldbuses. Honeywell control systems and fieldbuses. Connecting field devices and IO interfaces by using fieldbuses. Fieldbus cabling. Smart properties in field instrumentation. Maintenance of field devices. Instrumentation monitoring software AMS, PDM, Fieldcare. Standardization of fieldbuses. Using Ethernet in automation. Profinet. Fieldbus applications by using Foundation Fieldbus.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The evaluation of this study unit is based on an examination (50%), and on laboratory exercise reports (50%). Excellent (5), good (4-3), satisfactory (2-1), fail (0).
