Objective
You know the EU and the Finnish waste policy and legislation principles, you know how to describe the current state of waste management, and you understand the most important municipal waste management operations. You will be able to describe the most common operations that cause soil pollution and the transport of contaminants and environmental factors that modify chemicals behaviour. You will be able to assess the amount of pollution, environmental and health risks, as well as know the main methods for remediation of contaminated soil and legislation.
Content
How to waste management in Finland (including municipalities) operates and how the operation is controlled (legislation, policy guidelines)? What challenges and opportunities of urban and rural areas is related to waste management? What kind of activities, compounds and conditions can lead to soil pollution? What are the factors that are affected by contamination of the soil and the need for remedation actions?
