Objective
To know how to support an elderly person in achieving and maintaining physical, mental and social health, and to actively utilise scientific knowledge in decision-making for nursing and care
To be able to plan, implement and assess symptom-specific and humane care for patients with terminal or chronic diseases and to support their family, and to actively utilise scientific knowledge in decision-making for nursing and care
To know how to encounter and sustain care-related interaction with a person with mental health and alcohol and drug abuse issues and their family in different care environments in a resource-orientated manner that promotes mental health and prevents disturbances
To understand the impact of mental health issues and alcohol and drug abuse on a person’s and their family’s well-being
To be able to support a client in acute crisisTo understand one’s professional responsibility and to be able to ensure and promote patient safetyTo be able to assess one’s learning and development
Content
Gerontology nursing and internship in home nursing 8ECTS
Practical and simulation training, study visits (1ECTS) to different learning environments
Clinical internship (7ECTS) will be undertaken in care and nursing units or within home nursing services.
The training includes introductory lessons (2) before the internship and reflective lessons (2) after the internship.
Internship: Mental health care and care for alcohol and drug abusers 7ECTS
Practical and simulation training, study visits (1ECTS) to different learning environments
Clinical internship (6ECTS) will be performed in mental health care units and units for the care for alcohol and drug abusers.
The training includes introductory lessons (2) before the internship and reflective lessons (2) after the internship.
Complying with the training environment’s safety and security requirements
Updating one’s CV and outlining learning objectives before the beginning of the internship
Planning one’s own work shifts according to the supervisor’s shifts
Familiarising oneself with the operating environment
Practising encountering, treating and guiding the client by utilising evidence-based information in accordance with the objectives
Filling in the electronic medication passport
