Objective

Competence in patient education and teaching
• you understand the philosophical, ethical and pedagogical foundation of education and teaching and their significance
• you are able to plan, implement and evaluate patient education and teaching in a client- and group-oriented manner together with other professionals
• you understand patient education and teaching as part of a nurse’s work in different contexts
• you are able to utilize client-oriented patient education and teaching methods appropriate to the situation
• you are able to appropriately utilize the existing and produce new patient education and teaching materials

• patient education and teaching philosophies, views on learning and their significance in the patient education and teaching process
• concepts of patient education and teaching
• ethical viewpoints on the patient education and teaching process
• patient education and teaching process: needs assessment, planning, implementation and documentation
• methods to evaluate the effect of patient education in different contexts
• patient/client education
• mentoring
• orientation of a new member of staff/ student nurse
• patient education methods and forms
• patient education quality
• patient education and communication utilizing information and communications technologies
• evaluation and development of patient education

a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way
b. evaluate information sources critically
e. choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
g. apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field

Qualifications

You have proven your competence in the following studies:
- Anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology (5 ECTS)
- Quality and safety of social and health care services (5 ECTS)
- Basics of clinical nursing (5 ECTS)
- Practical training: Professional basics of nursing (minimum 4 ECTS)

Module: Practical training: Basics of professional nursing 30 ECTS
Module: Family- and community-oriented nursing 25 ECTS
