Objective
Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of STCW table A-II/1 function: Navigation at the operational level. This course concentrates on learning the following competencies:
- plan and conduct a passage and determine position
- maintain a safe navigational watch
- use of radar to maintain safety of navigation
- respond to emergencies
- respond to a distress signal at sea
- transmit and receive information by visual signalling
- manoeuvre the ship.
Content
This course contains supervised simulator exercises, which are based on previously completed theory studies. These exercises have been grouped to form the following simulator training days, which have different themes:
- bridge watchkeeping and use of sound and visual signals
- navigation in open sea and traffic separation schemes
- navigation in coastal waters and restricted visibility
- ship manoeuvring and handling in different conditions
- navigation in restricted waters
- respond to emergencies and distress signals at sea.
Evaluation
Students can
