Objective

After completing the course Gerontological nursing: - You will be able to support and assess the health, functional capacity and resources of an older person by means and methods of nursing. - You will be able to apply your knowledge of changes caused by aging in carrying out nursing work. - You will be able to apply your knowledge of gerotechnology in nursing. - You will know how to apply your knowledge of aging-related changes when implementing medication and fluid therapy for the elderly. - You will be able to implement humane palliative and terminal treatment for elder patients that is symptomatic. - You will be able to implement treatment for the elderly as part of a multiprofessional team with consideration for their family. - You will understand the importance of social inclusion, prevention of exclusion, and economic sustainability in supporting the functional capacity of older patients.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

- Student identifies the nursing methods used to evaluate and maintain the health, functional capacity and resources of older people. - Student identifies the changes related to ageing when carrying out nursing work. - Student is aware of what gerotechnology is and how it can be used in nursing older people. - Student identifies the impact of ageing-related changes on the medication and fluid therapy of older people. - Student understands what symptomatic and humane palliative and terminal care of the elderly means. - Student understands what multiprofessional teamwork and cooperation with the family mean in nursing older people. - Student understands what social and economic sustainability means in nursing older people.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

- Student can apply the nursing methods used to evaluate and maintain the health, functional capacity and resources of older people. - Student can apply their knowledge of changes caused by aging in carrying out nursing work. - Student can describe what gerotechnology is and how it can be used in nursing older people. - Student knows the impact of ageing-related changes on the medication and fluid therapy of older people. - Student is aware of methods for symptomatic and humane palliative and terminal care for older people. - Student is aware of the importance of different actors in multiprofessional teamwork and family cooperation in the service and care chain for older people. - Student finds solutions for supporting social and economic sustainability in nursing older people.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

- Student can justify their application of the nursing methods used to evaluate and maintain the health, functional capacity and resources of older people. - Student can apply a combination of their knowledge of changes caused by aging in carrying out nursing work. - Student is able to critically assess the ways gerotechnology can be used in nursing older people. - Student expertly uses knowledge on the impact of ageing-related changes on the medication and fluid therapy of older people. - Student can critically apply methods for symptomatic and humane palliative and terminal care for older people. - Student is able to extensively assess multiprofessional teamwork and family cooperation in the service and care chain for older people. - Student finds various solutions for supporting social and economic sustainability in nursing older people.
