Objective

A student who has completed this course or acquired equivalent competence will be able to: - communicate in the most common everyday and workplace oral and written situations - take into account cultural characteristics specific to German-speaking countries in their communication - better consider cultural diversity and language awareness.

- pronunciation and intonation - small talk situations - talking about oneself, one's studies, and work - handling situations in restaurants and in customer service - traveling - getting to know German-speaking countries and their cultures

Evaluation

Welcome to the start of your German language studies! You will learn to introduce yourself, make small talk, and talk about your studies, work, and free time. You will get to know German-speaking countries and prepare to use German when traveling. You’ll also learn how to order drinks and food. Willkommen an Bord — welcome aboard!

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

For CONTACT, ONLINE, and BLENDED implementations, attendance is required during the scheduled teaching sessions. If you are absent for more than 25% of the sessions, your grade will be lowered by one grade point. If you are absent for more than 50% of the sessions, you will fail the course. You are able to use German with support in some of the most common oral and written situations in everyday and working life. You are still practicing pronunciation and basic grammar structures, and you have a partial command of the vocabulary related to the course topics. You are familiar with some general features of everyday and work culture in German-speaking countries and have explored the diversity of your operating environment.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You are able to use German fairly independently and fluently in the most common oral and written situations in everyday and working life, applying what you have learned in familiar language use situations. You have a good command of pronunciation, basic grammar structures, and the vocabulary related to the course topics. You are well-acquainted with the general features of everyday and work culture in German-speaking countries and understand the diversity of your operating environment

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

You are able to use German independently and fluently in the most common oral and written situations in everyday and working life, and apply what you have learned confidently in new language use situations. You have an excellent command of pronunciation basics, the key fundamental structures, and the vocabulary related to the course topics. You are very well-acquainted with the key features of everyday and work culture in German-speaking countries and are able to consider the diversity of your operating environment.
