Objective
Knowledge, understanding and proficiency of:
Assesment of needs of casualties and threats to own safety
Appreciation of body structure and functions
Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in case of emergency, including the ability to:
- Position casualty
- apply resuscitation techniques
- control bleeding
- apply appropriate measures of basic shock management
- apply appropriate measures in event of burns and scalds, including accidents caused by electric current
- rescue and transport a casualty
- improvise bandages and use materials in the emergency kit
- Prevent further harm and minimize risks

Work week-based learning pathway:
Healthcare 1 (A-VI / 1-3)
Learning pathway that speeds up studies:
Mandatory first aid course that takes place in accordance with the requirements of EU directives and the Manila 2010 agreement.
Work-integrated learning pathway:
First Aid 1 course, Finnish Red Cross. If the student has a valid First Aid Certificate then he can apply for a replacement.

This course does not include RDI and work-related cooperation.

Assessment methods and criteria
100% participation in contact teaching and an approved test pass entitles the holder to obtain an STCW certificate. The certificate is valid for 5 years.
