Objective

Clinical nursing
• you are able to apply the Finnish Nutrition Recommendations in the prevention and care of Finnish national diseases

Promotion of health and functional ability
• you understand the connections between societal/political decision making and structures in promoting health and functional ability
• you understand the principles of health promotion and you are able to work according to the values of health promotion
• you understand the financial basis of health promotion
• you are able to identify and evaluate the health and well-being of the population and related factors on individual and communal level
• you are able to utilize on individual and communal level the existing knowledge (e.g. registers and statistics) about the health issues of the population
• you are able to identify causes for public health problems
• you are able to prevent risk factors that cause deterioration of health, functional and working ability and lead to limitations in the functional ability and you are able to intervene early

Clinical nursing
• The need and functions of nutrients in the body
• FNR diet in health promotion and prevention of national diseases
• Health issues of people of various ages

Promotion of health and functional ability
• legislation, national guidelines and programs and international and national recommendations related to health promotion
• comprehension of the ability of the service system to respond to the health care needs of the population
• economic/financial aspects of health promotion including the economic impact
• ethics and principles of health promotion
• different levels of health promotion (individual, community, national) and methods (promotion and prevention)
• the state of health and well-being in the population (strengths and challenges) and factors related to health (protective and risk factors)
• factors underlying health inequalities and social exclusion (socioeconomic status)
• identification and reduction of factors deteriorating public health
• interrelations between health habits and health, prevention of risk behavior
• promotion of sexual and reproductive health
• early identification of risk factors and targeting of support to those who need it
