Objective
The Senior Winter School 2025 will focus on the increasing importance of scientific outreach and communication across diverse audiences. Participants will explore the key concepts of scientific communication and dissemination, understanding their distinctions and relevance in today’s research landscape. The programme will address both traditional forms of scientific communication and modern approaches.
Special emphasis will be placed on engaging with non-expert audiences, ensuring that complex ideas are accessible without compromising accuracy. Additionally, participants will learn about vital considerations such as data protection and how to counter scientific misinformation, particularly on topics like health and climate change.
LO1. A deep understanding of the importance of research and scientific communication in maximising the societal impact of research findings, particularly in tackling misinformation.
LO2. Familiarity with various forms of research and scientific communication, tailored to different audiences, and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical contexts.
LO3. A comprehensive understanding of both traditional and emerging tools for scientific communication and dissemination, with the ability to assess which methods are most suitable for conveying complex information to public.
LO4. Insight into strategies for integrating research communication and dissemination into the everyday workflow of a researcher or scientist.

- Critical analysis and evaluation and synthesis of new and complex ideas.
- Communication with the academic and scientific community and with society in general about their fields of knowledge in the modes and languages commonly used in their international scientific community.
- Promotion, in academic and professional contexts, of scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural progress within a knowledge-based society.
Evaluation
Attendance to 100% is required.- Participation and interaction in classes will also be assessed.
Teachers or moderators could offer feedback on the creativity, clarity and effectiveness of the communication strategies or campaigns.

Physical part:
Start date: 2025-02-17, End date:2025-02-21.
From 17th to 21st February 2025, at the University of Oviedo, participants will engage in a range of activities under three key pillars—Learn, Share, and Connect. Participants will Learn through expert talks on scientific outreach, Share their ideas in collaborative projects, and Connect by engaging with the local community to transfer knowledge beyond academia.
Virtual part:
3 virtual lectures of 2 hours each: 2 before the physical part and 1 afterwards.
The virtual component consists of three online sessions: two preparatory sessions held in January and February, and one wrap-up session at the end of February. Each session will last for two hours. The pre-sessions will focus on preparing participants for the final day’s activity, which includes TED-style presentations (INGENIUM Talks) with the local education community and European stakeholders. The post-session will serve as a debriefing and reflective wrap-up.
