Pediatric and adolescent nursing (5 cr)

Objective

Promotion of health and functional ability
• you understand the impact of serious illness on a child's growth and development
• you understand the potentially negative effects of premature birth to a child's growth and development
• you are familiar with care and assessment to support the individual development of a premature child and to support the family when providing care
• you know the basics of children's and adolescents' mental health and factors which can affect mental health

Customer orientation
• you understand the impact of serious illness on the child, adolescent and family
• you be able to individually plan, carry out and assess the care of an ill child, taking the family's needs into account

Clinical nursing
• you understand the importance of asepsis when nursing a seriously ill child or adolescent
• you are able to provide basic care for a seriously ill child or adolescent, taking into account the limitations imposed by the illness and its treatment
• you know the medicines used in juvenile illnesses (cardiac medicines, antirheumatic drugs, antirejection drugs)
• you know the anatomical, pharmacological, psychological and physiological differences between children and adults, and understand what these differences mean in practice and when safeguarding a child's vital functions
• you are able to intensively monitor children and adolescents and to provide basic care for critically ill children and adolescents
• you recognize the most common mental health disorders in children and adolescents and know and learn to identify the symptoms of these disorders in children and adolescents

Evidence-based work and decision-making
• you understand the importance of nutritional therapy when nursing children and adolescents and know which methods will promote a child's nutrition
• you recognize the most common somatic illnesses in children and the key medical treatment methods and be able to apply the information in practice (pediatric cancer, children's cardiac defects, premature birth, juvenile arthritis, children's organ transplants)
• you know the most common treatment methods for mental health disorders in children and adolescents

Nursing ethics and professionalism
• you are able to professionally support the family of an ill child
• you are prepared to encounter a terminally ill child or adolescent and his or her family

Content

• nursing children and adolescents with cardiac defects
• nursing children and adolescents with arthritis
• nursing premature children
• nursing children and adolescents with cancer
• children's and adolescents' emergency and intensive care
• nursing children and adolescents who require an organ transplant
• children's and adolescents' mental health work

Työviikkopohjainen väylä:
LASTEN JA NUORTEN HOITOTYÖ OPINTOJAKSO KOOSTUU KAHDESTA OSASTA TOERIAOPINNOT 3 OP, JOTKA VOIT SUORITTAA LÄHIOPETUKSENA KOTKAN KAMPUKSELLA TAI VERKOSSA (AC-LUENNOT) JA KÄYTÄNNÖN HARJOITTELUSTA, JOTKA VOIT SUORITTAA OMALLA KAMPUKSELLASI (LISÄTIETOA NÄISTÄ SAAT OMAN KAMPUKSESI LASTEN JA NUORTEN HOITOTYÖN OPETTAJALTA.

3 op teoriaopinnot 36 lähituntia työjärjestyksen mukaisesti lasten ja nuorten sairaanhoidosta ja 45 tuntia itsenäistä opiskelua.

2 op käytännön harjoittelua 16 h pienryhmissä koululla työjärjestyksen mukaisesti. HARJOITUSTUNNIT OVAT PAKOLLISIA, JOS HALUAT SUORITTAA KOKONAAN 5 OP!

Opintoja nopeuttava väylä:
LASTEN JA NUORTEN HOITOTYÖ OPINTOJAKSO KOOSTUU KAHDESTA OSASTA TOERIAOPINNOT 3 OP, JOTKA VOIT SUORITTAA LÄHIOPETUKSENA KOTKAN KAMPUKSELLA TAI VERKOSSA JA KÄYTÄNNÖN HARJOITTELUSTA, JOTKA VOIT SUORITTAA OMALLA KAMPUKSELLASI (LISÄTIETOA NÄISTÄ SAAT OMAN KAMPUKSESI LASTEN JA NUORTEN HOITOTYÖN OPETTAJALTA.

3 op teoriaopinnot voit suorittaa myös verkossa opiskelemalla ja osoittamalla osaamisen kirjatentillä. Osallistuminen tähän opintojaksoon edellyttää, että sinulla on opetussuunnitelman mukaisesti suoritettuna äitiys- ja perhehoitoyön opintojakso, olet valmis sairaanhoitaja tai sinulla on riittävä kokemus sairaanhoitajan työstä.

Timing of exams and assignments

Työviikkopohjainen väylä: Voit suorittaa kirjallisen tentin yleisenä uusintatenttipäivänä tai tenttiakvaario Examissa. Näyttökokeen uusiminen sovitaan tarvittaessa opettajan kanssa erikseen.

Opintoja nopeuttava väylä: Ilmoittaudut yleiseen tenttipäivään tai tenttiakvaario Examiin suorittamaan kirjallisen kokeen ja osallistut näyttökokeeseen oman kampuksesi lasten ja nuoren hoitotyön opettajan ohjeiden mukaisesti. 2 op käytännön harjoitteluun liittyvän näyttökokeen uusiminen sovitaan tarvittaessa opettajan kanssa erikseen.

5 op = 135 tuntia
Työviikkopohjainen väylä: lähitunnit / AC luennot 36 h (ei läsnäolo velvoitetta, mutta osallistuminen ja aktiivisuus vaikuttavat arvosanaan!), kliininen harjoittelu koululla 16 h (pakollinen läsnäolo!), kirjallinen koe 2 h ja näyttökoe 30 min / opiskelija, itsenäinen opiskelu 51 h, joka käytetään oppimispäiväkirjan kirjoittamiseen ja valmistautumiseen kirjalliseen kokeeseen.

Opintoja nopeuttava väylä: Teoriaopinnot 3 op: itsenäinen opiskelu verkossa ja valmistautuminen kirjalliseen kokeeseen ja oppimispäiväkirjan kirjoittaminen 113 tuntia ja kirjallinen koe 2 h. Käytännön harjoittelu 2 op: kliininen harjoittelu koululla 16 h (pakollinen läsnäolo!) ja näyttökoe 30 min/opiskelija.

Työviikkopohjainen väylä: Teoriaopinnot 3 op: arvosana muodostuu kirjallisesta kokeesta (T1-K5 33 %), oppimispäiväkirjasta (T1-K5 33 %), osallistumisesta lähitunneille / AC-luennoille (T1-K5 33 %)
Käytännön harjoittelu 2 op: osallistumisesta harjoitustunneille ja näyttökokeen suorittaminen hyväksytysti (hyväksytty – hylätty).

Opintoja nopeuttava väylä: Teoriaopinnot 3 op: arvosana muodostuu kirjallisesta kokeesta (T1-K5 50 %) ja oppimispäiväkirjasta (T1-K5 50 %).
Käytännön harjoittelu 2 op: osallistumisesta harjoitustunneille ja näyttökokeen suorittaminen hyväksytysti (hyväksytty – hylätty).
