Objective

You learn basic principles of blockchain technology.
You learn various aspects of blockchain technology and its integration into business processes
You understand how platform economy operates.
You can analyse various types of platforms and recognize platform business models.

Content

What is the concept of blockchain technology and what are its basic principles?
How to develop and to apply a blockchain technology in business?
What types of platforms exist in business?
How do the platforms function?

Materials

- Information provided by the instructors
- a set of readings provided at the beginning of the course
- a set of business cases involving blockchain and platform technologies

Teaching methods

At the end of the course, you are able to:
- understand the concept of blockchain
- recognize applications of blockchain in business, technologic and social processes
- understand the concept of platform economy
- identify the platform business models and types of platforms
- analyse emerging trends in the fields of blockchain and innovation

Exam schedules

The course evaluation will consists of:
- presentation of case solutions regarding blockchain or platform technology (40%)
- active participation in the intensive classes (20%)
- final test for checking theoretical and practical concepts (40%)

International connections

The course is a part of the Codeshare Teaching project realized jointly with the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (Germany), University of Cape Coast (Ghana), Koblenz University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and other possible partners from the USA and South Korea. Students from the aforementioned partner universities will take part in this course in addition to the DIB degree students from XAMK.
Students of the aforementioned partner universities will study using online synchronous and asynchronous options.

Student workload

3 hours (1,5 h + 1,5 h) lectures each day) + student group work in between,
+ 1 h final online test in Open Learn page

The evaluation will be based on the following:
- You understand key concepts regarding the blockchain technology and platform businesses
- You can use given set of tools to innovate a new business model
-Apply the technology and tools to understand own business or other existing businesses
