Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- structures of various power electronic converters and transducers, as well as operating principles
- electric motor drives and their design criteria
- the importance of the prescribed uses for the electrical power supply and maintenance of the ship
- component selection, control and protection criteria
Content
- working principles of electronic converters and transducers in a ships electric network
- the characteristics of electric motor drives, design, operation and protection in a ship’s electric network
- the influence of power electronic devices to the grid and reducing of interferencies in the ship’s electric network
Evaluation
Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/6 column 4 are used:
- operations are planned and carried out in accordance with operating manuals, established rules and procedures to ensure safety of operations
