Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- basics of programmable controllers and digital distributed systems
- function and principles of control and monitoring devices
- class requirements for ship automation systems
Content
- measured and adjustabled variables in a process, applicable controls, block diagram of control circuit, behaviour when adjusted, adjustment, different parameters, parameter setting and switching to automatic systems and field channels
- class requirements for ship automation systems

Evaluation
Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field
- promote teams’ goal-oriented operation
- justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field
In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/1 column 4 are used:
- safety measures for working are appropriate
- selection and use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and testing equipment are appropriate and interpretation of results is accurate
- dismantling, inspecting, repairing and reassembling equipment are in accordance with manuals and good practice
