Objective

Gerontological nursing
You can apply information on changes resulting from aging in your nursing work.
You know how to promote the health, ability to function and resources of an aging person utilizing nursing methods and medication.
You can carry out safe medication for an elderly person and understand the special features of the elderly.
You can apply information on memory disorders, treating people with memory disorders and the associated services.
You can apply evidence-based information in gerontological nursing.

Palliative nursing
You know how to recognise the need for palliative or terminal care of a patient.
You know the palliative care service system.
You know how to make a treatment plan for the final stages together with the patient and his/her family, the doctor and other multiprofessional team members.
You can carry out nursing based on symptoms and humane palliative and terminal care.
You can apply evidence-based information in nursing palliative patients.

How do you encounter and support a memory person and their loved ones in palliative care – the living will, a valuable end of life?

Evaluation

Students can:
• use professional concepts of gerontology and palliative nursing consistently.
• search for information in key sources of information
• perceive tasks as a whole.
• justify their actions with evidence-based information.

Study forms and methods

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Gerontologinen hoitotyö ja geriatria: Osallistut työjärjestyksen mukaiseen lähiopetukseen, joka sisältää esimerkiksi ryhmätehtäviä, harjoituksia, luentoja, opintokäyntejä. Itsenäisenä työskentelynä teet erikseen annettavia oppimistehtäviä sekä perehdyt osoitettavaan materiaaliin. Opiskelusi rytmittyvät työjärjestyksen mukaisten ja itsenäisten oppimistehtävien mukaan.
