Objective

Health promotion
You understand the basis and levels of health and welfare promotion.
You recognize the protective and strengthening factors of individual and community health and global health threats and challenges.
You can search and apply statistical information about the welfare of the population and draw conclusions about public health.
You understand the possibilities of welfare technology in health promotion.
You understand the consequence of health inequalities in the population and you can affect them.
You understand the ethical principles of health promotion.

Nutrition
You know how to apply Finnish nutrition and treatment recommendations for different age and target groups in preventing and nursing national diseases.
You know how to integrate nutritional care and guidance into comprehensive nursing in cooperation with a network of multisectoral experts.
You can take into account sustainable development and ethics in nutritional care and guidance.
You can assess the nutritional status of a customer/patient and refer the customer/patient in the risk of malnutrition to an expert.

What is the basis of welfare and health promotion?
What are the levels of promotion and prevention of health?
What kind of factors protect and strenghten health?
How do you co-operate with the third sector in health and welfare promotion?

How you can apply statistical information about the welfare of the population?
What opportunities there are in welfare analytics, health tchnology and artificial intelligence in health promotion?
What kind of consequences are in health inequality and how you can affect them?
How can you take into account ethics in health promotion?

Nutrition
What are Finnish nutrition recommendations for different age groups?
How you apply the contents of nutrition recommendations in dietary habits of the client?
How you can take into account sustainable development and ethics in dietary habits of the client?
How you apply nutrition care and preventive nutrition guidance on the basis of recommendations?

Teaching methods

Health Promotion 2cr.
Concepts of health promotion, community health promotion and global health 2 cr. Implemented in lectures, in English. The course also includes exchange students.

Employer connections

The course will participate in the Savonlinna Welfare Fair on September 24, 2022. 100% presence.

Exam schedules

Exam at the end of the course. Evaluation 1-5. The dates of the exam and assignments will be announced at the beginning of the course.

International connections

The course is open to students from several different countries.
Teaching is in english.
