Ethical social work (5 cr)

Objective

You can study social work in a culture sensitive, ethical and critical way.
You understand the meaning of views of human beings and values in client work.
You can analyze your own values, attitudes and prejudices in relation to the principles of social work.
You identify the contradictions and possibilities related to social work in different operational environments.
You are aware of the purpose of registering and documentation and you are able to document confidential client information considering the main principles of information security and confidentiality.

How do human rights, laws and ethical principles regulate client work in social work?
What do culture sensitivity and criticism in social work mean?
What kind of cultural and ethical possibilities and challenges are encountered in social work?
How do you take into account norms, values and ethical principles when working as a social worker?
What are the principles of juridically sustainable and ethical documentation?

Evaluation

Students can
use professional vocabulary of social work systematically.
identify interrelated tasks related to client work and process.
work together with clients, users and target groups taking into account their individuality and strengths.
justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field and to the laws related to client work issues.

Study forms and methods

Opintojakso toteutetaan monimuoto-opetuksena: oppimistehtäviä, kontaktiopetusta lukujärjestyksen mukaisesti viikoilla 38 ja 42 sekä kirjallisuustentti. Lisäksi opintomoduulin yhteinen case-työskentely.
