Objective
Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- providing medical assistance to an ill or injured person on board
- medical examination and recording of findings
- leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of onboard health and medical care
- maintaining the ship's dispensary and prescribing and dispensing medicines safely
- managing the techniques of drug treatment
- consulting medical doctors for instructions and acting in accordance with the instructions, Radiomedical
- principles of aseptic work
- preventing additional accidents and mitigating risks

- management of onboard healthcare activities
- compliance with regulations concerning the ship's dispensary
- medical examination of an ill or injured person and recording of findings
- drug dosage and effect mechanisms
- recognition of allergies and immune responses
- command of available treatment methods in accordance with the 2015 Act on Ships' Medical Stores, independently or as per medical doctor's instructions via Radiomedical
- planning, implementation and evaluation of radiomedical communication and consultation
- literature and guidelines provided for the purposes of onboard health care such as Pharmaca Fennica and Medical Guidebook for Seafarers
- head and spinal injuries
- injuries of ear, nose, throat and eyes

Participation in exercises and contact teaching 100%, individual examination are prerequisites for completing the course and obtaining a certificate.
