Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- seafarers’ legal responsibilities
- marine insurance
- taking care of owners benefit

Content

- basics of maritime legislation
- maritime law, criminal law, labour law
- masters’ and seafarers responsibilities
- owners responsibility
- terms of marine insurance
- basics of risk management
- insurance business and coverage
- masters role in maritime and transport casualties

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary systematically
- evaluate information sources critically
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-II/2 column 4 are used:
- cargo operations are planned and executed in accordance with established procedures and legislative requirements or other documents and established safety rules/regulations, equipment operating instructions and shipboard stowage limitations
- emergency procedures are in accordance with the established plans for emergency situations
- procedures for monitoring operations and maintenance comply with legislative requirements
- potential non-compliance is promptly and fully identified
- planned renewal and extension of certificates ensures continued validity of surveyed items and equipment
