Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- basics of statics and dynamics
- forces and stresses on structure
- basics of strucuture calculations
- stresses, strains and deformations
- fatigue and buckling

Content

- resultant of force
- torque
- force/torque balance
- stresses and strains
- beam structures
- pilar structures
- deformations
- loads
- normal force
- buckling
- fatigue

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
- apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/2 column 4 are used:
- explanation and understanding of design features and operating mechanisms are appropriate

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
In lectures you will learn theory on the subject and do excercises, which are then collectively reviewed.



Independent track:
If you are working a company that is in the similar industry, you can make a a larger development project within your company, which is graded and replaces the excercises within the course. Additionally you have to take the tests in the course. Please contact the lecturer on the start of the course.

Timing of exams and assignments

Exams to upgrade grading must be taken within one year from the start of the course.

Participation in first classroom lecture is mandatory. If student can't participate for some good reason He/She must contact the teacher before the first lecture.
More detailed description and schedule of the course will be told in the first lecture.

Assessment methods and criteria

Grading will be based on the weekly excercices, that will be done in home and to final exam.
