Objective
You learn the different ways in which modelling is nowadays integrated into environmental research and environmental monitoring systems. The course deals with various models that are used in environmental research, and you learn their use "hands on" by completing exercises based on actual data from international databases and/or data available from the Mikkeli region. You also learn the workflow from environmental monitoring data from its source to the final use in an environmental model.
Content
What types of models exist to describe the status of soil, water and air?
How are these models used in analyzing the state of the environment and to forecast future developments?
How are the models used at a local scale, and on the other hand, internationally?
How do you in practice model the transportation of impurities in waterways?
