Content
Fresh woodworking, green woodworking, is a traditional woodworking skill. Fresh wood means wood material that has not been artificially dried. Ideally, however, the material should be fresh, i.e. freshly felled or only a short time has elapsed since it was felled. A person working with fresh wood takes advantage of the natural structure of the wood. The tools are simple hand tools and shape is created on the terms of the material. The blanks are usually made by splitting, so that the grain structure of the wood remains intact and as strong as possible, the shape follows the grain structure and waste is minimized. The wood material with its scents, colors and surfaces gives the product its characteristic features. Shrinkage and deformation are natural. The processing of fresh wood is an example of a method of production in which, respecting nature, necessities, furniture, parts of buildings and entire wooden buildings are produced locally with the least possible amount of energy. Secondary and otherwise wasted wood parts, such as thinning logs, oversized logs, curved trunk parts, branches, rhizomes, etc., are also suitable as material. During the course, we design and manufacture the object using Greenwood handicraft methods.
