Finnish communication skills (5 cr)

Objective

You can act appropriately in various communication situations.
You are familiar with Xamk's instructions for written assignments and know how to make use of them.
You are able to search reliable information and use it ethically.
You can read and interpret expert texts and combine their content with your own text.
You know how to write texts that meet the standards for layout, content and style required in your studies and in the world of work.
You can prepare and deliver a coherent and appropriate expert presentation.
You can give and receive feedback and use it in your own learning.

Content

What role do communication and interaction play in your studies and the world of work?
What interaction skills are required in your own studies and in your future profession?
How do you search reliable information from different sources and use it ethically?
Which written skills (genres, styles, tools) should you master?
How do you explain your views appropriately in standard language?
How do you prepare and deliver a spoken presentation?
How do you assess your own presenting skills and manage stage fright?
What skills do you need in different group communication situations?
How do you give feedback and use feedback from others?

Evaluation

The course Finnish communication skills takes place at the entry-level of the learning process. Assessment is primarily based on criteria b-f.

Students achieving level 3 can
b. search information from field-specific sources, treat it critically and use it ethically in their written and spoken communication
c. understand interrelated tasks and complete them as scheduled
d. and f. communicate appropriately in different situations
e. use the appropriate writing templates and referencing guidelines.

Course material

Opiskelumateriaali ja -aineistot annetaan kurssilla. Materiaali on pääsääntöisesti Learn-alustalla.

Study forms and methods

Tämä toteutus on suunnattu RAKT25SP- ja SCMKT25SP-ryhmille. Edellytyksenä toteutukseen osallistumiselle on sujuva suomen kielen hallinta.

Verkossa on tarjolla myös monialainen Viestintätaitojen verkko-opintojakso, jonka voi suorittaa itsenäisesti.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Opintojaksolla harjoitellaan viestinnän perustaitoja työelämää varten. Opintojaksoon liittyy alakohtaisten viestintätilanteiden harjoittelua.

Timing of exams and assignments

Toteutuksessa on oppimistehtäviä ja kielenhuollon tentti. Aikataulu ilmoitetaan opintojakson alussa.

International cooperation

Viestinnän opiskelu antaa geneerisen tason kansainvälisyysvalmiuksia, kulttuurisen viestinnän sisällöt ovat osa jaksoa.

Student workload

1 op vastaa noin 27 tuntia opiskelijan työtä. Työmäärä kuitenkin riippuu opiskelutaidoista ja aiemmasta osaamisesta. 5 op:n opintojaksolla opiskelijan työmäärä on noin 135 tuntia.

Further information

Viestintätaidot tulee olla suoritettuna ennen kuin voi ryhtyä tekemään tutkimusmenetelmäopintoja, mahdollista kolmannen vuoden syventävää opintoa/seminaarityötä ja ennen kaikkea opinnäytetyötä.

Osallistuminen edellyttää vähintään B2:n kielitaitoa.

Assessment methods and criteria

Arviointiasteikko: Kiitettävä (5), hyvä (4–3), tyydyttävä (2–1): hylätty (0). Hyväksytty suoritus edellyttää aktiivista osallistumista opetukseen.

Arviointi suoritetaan suhteessa opintojakson osaamistavoitteisiin ja arviointikriteereihin. Opintojakson suoritukseen kuuluu kaikkien oppimistehtävien hyväksytty suoritus toteutusajan sisällä. Osa tehtävissä arvioidaan hyväksytty/hylätty ja osa 1–5. Koko opintojakso arvioidaan kuitenkin hyl. (0) tai 1–5.

This course is for native or advanced Finnish speakers (CERF level B2 or higher).
