Objective

You know the basic operations of the waste management system and relevant legal requirements as well as the differences in managing various waste streams. You are aware of the possibilities for waste reduction through circular economy and familiar with the techniques used to separate, reuse and recycle waste or to recover energy from waste.

What is waste hierarchy and how is it implemented?
What are the best available technologies for managing different types of waste considering the aspects of sustainability?

This course consists of:
• Lectures 50h (including calculation and groupwork tutoring sessions)
• Independent study and individual assignments 30h (30% of the grade)
• Group assignment (project) 30h (30% of the grade)
• Exam (including estimated time preparing for the exam) 35h (40% of the grade)

Possibly a visit to the local waste management center (time announced later).
Total student workload is 135 h (5 cu)

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation based on the points from assignments and exam using scale:
•Grade 1: 50-59p
•Grade 2: 60-69p
•Grade 3: 70-79p
•Grade 4: 80-89p
•Grade 5: over 90p

NOTE: late submission of assignments reduces points.
