You are able to actively use the basic professional vocabulary of your field.
You are able to look for information in English in professional sources and apply it in different study and work related communication situations.
You are able to communicate in English in various spoken and written situations in your professional field at the European level B2.

What professional vocabulary is essential in your professional field?
How to look for information in professional sources in English and how to apply this information?
How to interact in spoken communication situations in English and how to draw up texts in English for professional purposes?
How to communicate in study-related situations and work communities in English?

The following literature is used in the course:
• Way to Welfare: English for Social Services. Kirsi Saarinen, Juha Saarinen. Otava
Other study materials will be published on the Learn platform at the start of the course.

Yksilölliset oppimisväylät

• The teaching is conducted entirely as on-campus teaching at the Kotka campus according to the schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, on-campus teaching is not recorded and is not replaced with online lectures when on-campus teaching is provided according to the schedule. Attendance is essential for the completion of the course.
• The study is structured according to the schedule of group meetings and independently performed learning tasks. The course consists of individual and small group tasks done during the lessons, as well as independent learning tasks on the Learn platform.

The course has weekly tasks. At the end of the course, a recorded presentation is done and an exam on campus.

The course ends at the time announced in the course information, by which the student has submitted the tasks required for completion, passed the exams, and fulfilled any other requirements for an approved performance.

• 1 credit corresponds to approximately 27 hours of student work. However, the workload depends on study skills and previous knowledge.
• For a 5-credit course, the student's workload is approximately 135 hours.

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level B1.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level B2.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing in various situations in the professional field mainly at the European (CEFR) level C1.

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation is made in relation to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The successful completion of the course requires the completion of assessed tasks and the exam with an approved grade.

If you have been instructed to participate in the Intensive course in English, you must complete it or independently acquire the equivalent knowledge and skills before you can participate in this course.
