Objective
You can assess and examine physical capacity and components of health-related physical fitness using key physiotherapy assessment tools and measures.
You can assess and examine the cardiovascular and respiratory function of an individual using key physiotherapy assessment methods and measures.
You can draw conclusions about an individual's physical capacity, health-related physical fitness and cardiovascular and respiratory function based on assessment results.
You can design and instruct goal-oriented exercises for individuals and groups to improve physical capacity and aspects of health-related physical fitness.
You can design and instruct exercises to promote the well-being of the body and mind of the individual, using a psychophysical approach.
You can consider aseptic principles and work ergonomics in physiotherapy work.
You can work in physiotherapy situations in a client-oriented manner and in consideration of patient safety.
You can act in accordance with the professional ethical guidelines for physiotherapists.

Study forms and methods
• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Savonlinna campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
• Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups. The course consists of practical lessons and individual and small-group assignments. In addition, demonstration of competence must be
completed.
• The assessed assignments are completed independently/in groups/in pairs.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.
• The course consists of three parts which are separately assessed. More detailed information available below in section “Course part description”.

No working life cooperation in this course.
Timing of exams and assignments
Assignments must be completed for each section of the course, and exams must be taken in the last scheduled lesson.
The course entails assignments. Project assignments must be completed by the end of the course.
The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments, take the required exams, and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
Student workload
• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.

You know the methods of guidance used in physiotherapy.
You can define the different aspects of health-related fitness and you can describe their connection to health and functional capacity.
You can observe and assess the client’s basic movement and functional capacity with the key assessment methods and meters used in physiotherapy.
You know and understand the professional ethical guidelines for physiotherapists.
