Objective
You can define social, health and rehabilitation services and their meaning for the welfare of Finns.
You understand clients' rights and participation as users and developers of social and health care services.
You are aware of the individual factors influencing clients' every-day coping and rehabilitation processes.
You are aware of the ways to empower your clients' participation during rehabilitation processes.
You are familiar with the ways to promote rehabilitation processes and every-day coping at the individual, group and population levels by making use of living environments and multi-professional services.
Content
How are social, health and rehabilitation services organised in Finland? What is their meaning and how do they affect the welfare of the population?
What are clients' rights and participation as users and developers of social and health care services?
What is service guidance and its role in the rehabilitation process?
How do you identify the individual factors influencing clients' every-day life and rehabilitation process?
How do you promote clients' participation in goal-setting, planning, implementation and evaluation to enhance every-day activities?
How do you promote rehabilitation processes at individual, group and population levels by making use of living environments and multi-professional services (incl. ICF, GAS)?
Evaluation
Students can

- justify their actions according to the ethical principles of the professional field.

Other study materials are provided by the teacher via the Learn platform.
Study forms and methods
• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Kotka campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures. Participation in simulation exercises/oral exercises/company visits is mandatory.
• The assessed assignments are completed independently/in groups/in pairs.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.

Timing of exams and assignments
An exam must be taken in the scheduled lesson and there will be seminar presentation to evaluate.
The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments, take the required exams and meet all other conditions set for an approved course completion.
Student workload
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.

The course requires 80% attendance.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is based on the learning outcomes and evaluation criteria of the course. To pass the course, students must complete the exam and seminar paper with a passing grade, as well as successfully complete all other required assignments.
