Objective

You can plan, implement and evaluate the health and functional capacity of working-age adults and the elderly.
You can assess the risk factors related to the health, living conditions and life situation of the elderly and instruct the client to use the appropriate services.
You understand the structure of wellbeing at work and the role of occupational health care in the promotion of wellbeing.
You can explain and follow the principles of good occupational health care practices.
You can assess the mutual effects of work, work communities and work environments on the health of the client.
You can give recommendations related to work conditions and personal health needs.
You can advice the client to use the appropriate services and ensure the continuity of care.
You know how to take into account multiculturalism in your work.

The contents of working-age nursing and occupational health care:
What elements does wellbeing at work include?
What are the specific questions related to the wellbeing of an entrepreneur?
What is the role of occupational health care in promoting wellbeing at work?
What is the essential legislation and strategies related to health promotion of working-age people and the elderly?
What is the content of statutory occupational health care?
What are the principles of the best practices in occupational health care?
How do you assess work, working conditions and operational environment connected to health?
How do you assess the ability to work and function?
When are health examinations compulsory?
What are the main work-related illnesses and occupational diseases?
What is occupational health and safety and how is it organized?
How do you observe and report personal work ergonomics?
How do you utilize the feedback from customers, clients and client forums when planning services?

The contents of elderly health care:
What is essential in health examinations and health promotion of the elderly?
What are the special features of health guidance for the elderly (e.g physical exercise, nutrition, sexuality, sleep, ageing and long-term illnesses)?
How do you utilize welfare and health technology in health promotion of ageing people and the elderly?
How do you use the rehabilitation approach and method in public health nursing?
How do you instruct the clients to get the appropriate social and health care services?

The course is carried out as contact teaching on campus and as independent working online. Students must be present in classroom classes. The first contact teaching session provides more detailed instructions for completing the course.

The course is divided into the following sections:
Occupational Health Care 2 cr
Occupational Medicine 0.5 ECTS
Work Ergonomics 0.5 ECTS
Health Care for the Elderly 2 cr

Occupational Health Care 2 ECTS - lectures, learning tasks, exam
Occupational Medicine 0.5 ECTS - Learning assignment
Work ergonomics 0.5 ECTS - learning task
Health Care for the Elderly 2 cr - seminar assignment + presentations, which integrate into the whole of the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is assessed numerically (1-5). Some of the tasks included in the overall assessment are evaluated numerically (1-5) and some are graded - rejected. Accepted completion of the course requires successful completion of the assignments and exam.
