Objective

You know the basics and methods of forest regeneration. You can plan and carry out regeneration related measures and take into consideration ecological, technical and economic factors. You can describe the different stages of seed care and seedling cultivation.

When is forest mature for regeneration?
What kind of measures does regeneration involve?
How do you regenerate forest by taking into consideration ecological, technical and economic factors?
How are seeds and seedlings produced?

Study forms and methods

The implementation entails 6 contact lessons on Mikkeli surrounding forests and unscheduled online study. Contact lessons are scheduled in weekdays.
Attendance in the contact lessons is mandatory and absence must be compensated.
The course is carried out within the group's curriculum schedule. The students must complete 5 individual assignments. Individual assignments are submitted every week.
The teacher provides guidance during and after contact lessons and via email.
Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally. Also, peer feedback can be used.

RDI and work-related cooperation

The course takes place at the very beginning of the studies. Focus on substance and group. No prerequisites for RDI or working life cooperation.

Timing of exams and assignments

An assignment must be completed at the end of each section of the course. An exam must be taken in the last scheduled lesson.

Student workload

• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.
