Service business management and labor legislation (5 cr)

Objective

You understand the concepts and principles of service business. You identify the various aspects of service packages and service design. You can manage service business processes and take care of business development. You know the general principles of leadership and you understand the importance of wellbeing at work. will understand the labor laws in this industry and get a comprehensive understanding of the meaning of collective bargaining, the employment contract and the principles of labor market activities. You understand labor law from the manager's perspective.

What are the specifics of the service business and service design? How do you run service business activities based on customer insight? What is the importance of wellbeing at work in management? What is labor law?

Study forms and methods

• The course is carried out by way of contact teaching on Savonlinna campus according to a weekly schedule. Remote participation is not possible. As a rule, scheduled contact lessons are not recorded nor duplicated by online lectures.
• Students make progress by attending scheduled lessons and completing tasks and assignments individually or in groups. The course consists of 10-12 lessons.
• The teacher provides guidance during and after contact lessons and according to a separate agreement
• The assessed assignments are completed independently.
• Feedback is provided by different methods, in writing and/or orally or or aggregated feedback.

RDI and work-related cooperation

If possible, external guest lecturers and expert lecturers are also used in connection with working life cooperation.

Timing of exams and assignments

There are 2-3 written assignments during the course. The course includes 2-3 exams and several shorter quizzes to support learning. The exams are taken on the course's Learn learning platform.

The course ends no later than the time indicated in the implementation information. The required assignments and exams will be returned and completed according to a separate schedule notified to them during the course.

International cooperation

The course does not include supervised international cooperation.

Student workload

• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total maximum workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons, group work and independent study.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment is carried out in relation to the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the course. Successful completion of the course requires that the student achieves at least 41% of the maximum number of points in the course.
