Objective

Nursing interventions

You understand your professional responsibilities and obligations and your actions promote patient safety.
You are able to create a good patient care relationship.
You are able to systematically monitor and evaluate the patient's well-being.
You have the basic knowledge of and the skills to carry out the key diagnostic tests needed in nursing.
You are able to respond to the need for care with nursing interventions and to document the process by entering structured nursing data using the FinCC system.
You are able to implement rehabilitation-promoting treatment and to work ergonomically.
You are able to implement the principles of safe pharmacotherapy.
You master the key principles of pain monitoring and assessment.
You are able to report according to the ISBAR protocol.
You master the basics of resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator.
You are able to encounter and care for a dying patient and support his or her close relations.
You recognize the signs of impending death and know how to prepare the deceased.

Study forms and methods

Basics of Clinical Nursing

- Theoretical Studies at School – 5 ECTS
- Preclinical Practice of Nursing Skills at School– 4 ECTS
- Ergonomics Competence – 1 ECTS

Preclinical Training*
Preclinical training is part of the legally required clinical training for EU-registered nurses. Attendance at every session is mandatory. The topics for training days can be found in the Learn online environment.

Ergonomics Competence
A valid Patient Transfers Ergonomics Card (3 ECTS) grants exemption from the ergonomics module.

Documentation
Theoretical studies and practical assignments related to documentation are mandatory.

For Students with a Previous Nursing Degree
Students with a prior nursing qualification must attend the practice sessions and pass the basic skills competency test. The theoretical part can be accredited with a valid certificate.

RDI and work-related cooperation

Clinical Nursing 1 includes preclinical training (4 sp nursing, 1 sp ergonomy) at school.

Working life lecturer and possibly visiting patients.

Student workload

Theory: workload 5 x 27h = 135 h

Preclinical training: workload 4 x 8 h = 32 h. 4 practical training days (7-8 h / day) and evaluation of learning. The student can practice nursing activities in the Skills Workshop under the guidance of a teacher.

Ergonomics theory: 1 ECTS = 27 h,
Ergonomics training: 0.5 ECTS = 13h

Course part description

Basics of Clinical Nursing Theory:
Basics of Clinical Nursing includes materials and learning assignments on the Learn platform. The material is studied independently with the support of workshops, and competence is demonstrated through an exam. Assessment: graded 1–5 / fail.

Preclinical training: 4 obligatory practical days at school + evaluation of learning.

Ergonomics section: Ergonomics theory and small practice tasks. Practising patient transfer and movement assistance in the school premises using assistive devices.

Documentation: 2 mandatory lectures and two documentation assignments. Evaluation passed/failed
