Objective

1. You can actively use and develop your English skills in your work and professional field as well as develop communication in English in your organisation.
2. You can interact in English in different oral and written communication situations in your own professional field
3. You can look for and evaluate scientific and professional information in the English sources of your own professional field and are able to apply the information to various communication situations in working life

What kind of English do you need in your work and studies in your field?
Where do you find information about the English terminology and its usage in your field?
How do you activate your English skills in professional contexts?
How do you use English related to your field orally and in writing?

Evaluation

- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
- look for information in the key information sources of the field.
- work together with customers, users and target groups in an international context
- communicate proficiently and systematically in spoken and written English

Course material

Study materials are provided by the teacher on the Learn platform. Some material is also produced by students.

Study forms and methods

• The course is mainly carried out by way of unscheduled online study but it also has three scheduled online lessons. The scheduled online lessons require active participation. Participation in scheduled online lessons is mandatory.
• Studies are carried out on the Learn platform. Access to the platform opens on the starting day of the course. As a rule, scheduled online lessons are carried out in the evening. In addition to having an internet connection, the students must also have a video and audio connection during online lessons.
• Progress is made by completing assignments individually.
• The assessed assignments are completed individually. The assignments must be submitted by the given deadlines.
• The course consists of five parts (1 credit each) which are separately assessed. You can take 1-5 credits depending on your needs.

Timing of exams and assignments

Assignments must be completed by the end of each section of the course. The end date of the course is presented in the course details. By this date, the student must submit all assignments. There is no exam in this course.

Student workload

• 1 ECTS credits equals 27 hours of work by the student.
• In a 5-credit course, the student's total workload is approximately 135 hours including lessons and independent study.

Module 2 - Research articles
Module 3 - The case
Module 4 - International networks
Module 5 - Presenting the case

Each Module is worth 1 credit. You can take 1-5 credits depending on your needs.

Further information

These are master's level studies and require B1+-B2 level skills. For bachelor's level students passing the 5-credit Professional English course is a prerequisite.

Assessment methods and criteria

The student’s performance is assessed with reference to the learning objectives and assessment criteria of the course. The course completion requires that all assignments are assessed with a passing grade.
