Objective

Knowledge and understanding of and proficiency in:
- the basics of mechanical system maintenance and methods
- maintenance arrays
- diagnostic applications and devices of maintenance
- failure mechanisms
- applications of maintenance on board a ship

Content

- the fundamentals of maintenance
- maintenance systems
- organization of maintenance
- condition monitoring and systems
- risk assesment
- safety at work
- environment protection

Evaluation

Students can
- use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations
- look for information in the key information sources of the field
- evaluate operations in customer, user and target group situations
- promote teams’ goal-oriented operation

In addition, competence evaluation according to STCW code table A-III/1 column 4 are used:
- maintenance activities are correctly planned and carried out in accordance with technical, legislative, safety and procedural specifications
- working practices are in accordance with legislative requirements, codes of practice, permits to work and environmental concerns
