Objective

You know WAN technologies and network services required by converged applications in a complex network.
You understand the selection criteria for network devices and WAN technologies to meet network requirements.
You are able to configure, monitor and troubleshoot network devices and solve common issues with broadband connections.
You develop knowledge and skills needed to implement basic IPSec and virtual private network (VPN) operations.

Content

What are the different WAN technologies and their characteristics?
How to configure and troubleshoot serial and broadband connections as well as VPNs?
How to monitor and troubleshoot network operations?

Evaluation

Students can
a.use professional vocabulary systematically.
c. identify interrelated tasks.
e. use the key models, methods, software and techniques of the professional field.

Course material

Advanced networking topics. Material will be announced in the course kick-off.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
The course consists of lectures (not compulsory but highly recommended), home assignments (help to understand the theory), labs (practical tasks to learn configuring the devices) and exams.
Blended track:
The required exams can be done at certain times, agreed with the teacher. Other material can be studied from a network learning environment.

Student workload

Total work amount is 135 hours, from which 55 hours is lectures/work under teacher supervision and 80 hours is self-study and home assignments.
