Objective
You will learn the basics of mathematics necessary in solving technical engineering problems.
For example, you will learn to
- determine the factors (current value, annuity) for investment calculations.
- calculate the rate of change (derivative) to solve problems of kinematics.
- use integral calculus to define a variable when the rate of change is known (how to determine speed based on acceleration)
- observe recurrent phenomena (voltage) with the help of the sine curve
- use a matrix to simplify problem solution
Content
How do I solve technical and economical engineering problems with the help of mathematics?
For example:
How is the economic order quantity (EOQ) calculated?
How is the speed function obtained from the acceleration function with the help of integral calculus?
How is a recurrent phenomenon described with the help of a sine curve (significance of parameters)?
How are matrices applied in simplifying the presentation of logistics problems?
How is the optimal speed of a vehicle calculated with the help of a derivative?
Evaluation
Tests and assignments. Assessment is given on the scale of 0 to 5 (requirement for a grade of 1 is 35%).
