Objective

Client-orientation
• you are able to encounter clients as active participants in their own care
• you are able to evaluate clients’ resources and support them in the planning, implementation and assessment of their care
• you are able to engage in professional interaction with clients of different ages

The operational environment in social and health care
• you know the organization of health and social care in Finland, and you understand how the services are produced, offered, controlled and monitored
• you are familiar and able to comply with the main current operational policies in social and health care
• you are able to guide the client/patient to using the appropriate public and private sector social and health care services and third sector services in order to promote his/her health and well-being
• you know the significance of different treatment and service units as parts of treatment and service processes
• you are able to utilize electronic services as part of the overall treatment of the patient /client
• you are able to utilize social media in your nursing work and keep your private and professional roles separated in your use of social media

You know how to:
a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way
b. evaluate information sources critically

Course material

Lecture material, the internet pages of public and private health care system, production, supervising and control in Finland. Directions of Custom's rights and feed back of the health care service system. The custom and the patient oriented approach.National social and health programmes on Social and Health Ministry page. Obligatory and recommended literature will be given.

Study forms and methods

Scheduled track:
Lectures, discussions and small group exercises in the class room. Instructed reading assignment to the next lesson and discussions will be given, e.g. by using internet. The written assignment and the written exam.

Blended track:
Not in the use in this course. Individual performance with the timetable is possible.

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation of the student's performance is based on:
- preparation for the lectures with the given material
- participation in discussion and building the common knowledge in the class room
- orientation based on written assignment and/or exam.
The familiarizing with the objectives and content of the course is needed.

Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon toimintaympäristö: Opiskelija ei osaa kuvata suomalaisten tämän hetkistä terveydentilaa, siihen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä ja sen vaikutuksia yhteiskunnan tasolla. Opiskelija ei tunne sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujärjestelmiä. Opiskelija ei tunne sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon lainsäädäntöä eikä pysty nimeämään yhtään kansallista kehittämisohjelmaa.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon toimintaympäristö: Opiskelijan kyky kuvata suomalaisten tämän hetkistä terveydentilaa, siihen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä ja sen vaikutuksia yhteiskunnan tasolla on puutteellista. Opiskelijalla ei ole selkeää käsitystä sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujärjestelmistä. Opiskelijan sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon lainsäädännön tuntemus on vajavaista ja hän pystyy ainoastaan nimeämään muutaman kehittämisohjelman.

Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon toimintaympäristö: Opiskelija pystyy kuvailemaan eri ikäisten suomalaisten tämän hetkistä terveydentilaa, siihen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä ja sen vaikutuksia yhteiskunnan tasolla. Opiskelijalle on muodostunut käsitys sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujärjestelmistä. Opiskelijan sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon lainsäädännön tuntemus on hyvä ja hän pystyy nimeämään ja avaamaan valtakunnallisia kehittämisohjelmia.

Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon toimintaympäristö: Opiskelija pystyy kuvailemaan laajasti eri ikäisten suomalaisten tämän hetkistä terveydentilaa, siihen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä ja sen vaikutuksia yhteiskunnan tasolla. Opiskelijalle on muodostunut selkeä käsitys sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujärjestelmistä ja hän osaa ohjata asiakasta niiden käytössä . Opiskelijan sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon lainsäädännön tuntemus on kattava. Opiskelija pystyy nimeämään valtakunnallisia kehittämisohjelmia ja pohtimaan niiden soveltamista käytännön työssä.
