Surgical and perioperative nursing (5 cr)

Objective

Clinical nursing
• you are able to perform the main clinical nursing tasks and diagnostic tests as part of the overall care for a surgical patient
• you are able to treat a surgical patient
• you are able to administer and evaluate safe pharmacological treatment
• you are able to support the functional ability and participation of a disabled person

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• you are able to determine the surgical patient’s need for care and plan nursing interventions according to the decision making process
• you are able to actively utilize research knowledge (recommendations, reports based on research evidence) in nursing decision making

Patient education competence
• you manage patient education as part of nursing work in surgical and perioperative care

Quality and safety of social and health care services
• you understand your professional responsibility in ensuring and
promoting patient safety
• you are able to promote patient safety in all phases of the patient’s
treatment process

Content

Clinical nursing
• most common procedures and diagnostic tests in surgical care
• most common diseases and symptoms requiring surgical care
• pre, intra- and postoperative care
• nursing interventions in the care of the surgical patient
• injuries
• pharmacological treatment in surgical and pre-, intra-, and postoperative care: pharmaceutical service, dosage calculations, blood transfusions, pharmacology and pharmacy

Evidence-based practice and decision making
• evaluation of the nursing process
• documentation in nursing

Patient education competence
• patient/client education

Quality and safety of social and health care services
• radiation safety

Evaluation

Assessment criteria level 3, competence during the completion phase.
You know how to
a. use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way
b. evaluate information sources critically
e. choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices
f. promote the team’s goal-oriented operation

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Opiskelijan tulee olla läsnä ensimmäisellä lähiopetuskerralla jolloin annetaan tarkemmat ohjeet opintojakson suorittamisesta. Lähiopetusta järjestetään tukemaan Moodlessa olevia materiaaleja.

Assessment methods and criteria

ARVIOINTIMENETELMÄT: Kirurgian osuudesta Moodletentit. Perioperatiivisen hoitotyön osuudesta tehtävä. Verkkokurssien tekeminen.

ARVIOINNIN PERUSTEET: Tenttien tekeminen, tehtävän ja verkkokurssien palauttaminen määräajassa. Aktiivinen osallistuminen lähiopetukseen.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

Opiskelija ei palauta tehtäviä ja/tai verkkokursseja määräajassa ja /tai ei saa hyväksyttyä tulosta tenteissä.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Opiskelija on palauttanut tehtävät ja verkkokurssit annetussa määräajassa ja suorittanut opintojakson tentit.
Tietojen soveltamisen taso osoittautuu heikoksi ja perustietojen hallinnassa on selviä puutteita.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Opiskelija on palauttanut tehtävät ja verkkokurssit annetussa määräajassa ja suorittanut opintojakson tentit.
Kirurgisen ja perioperatiivisen hoitotyön perustiedot ovat hyvin hallinnassa. Opiskelija on valmiuksia tunnistaa ja arvioida asiakkaan/potilaan leikkaushoitoon liittyvää hoidon tarvetta.

Opiskelija on palauttanut tehtävät ja verkkokurssit annetussa määräajassa ja suorittanut opintojakson osatentit.
Opiskelija hallitsee kirurgisen ja perioperatiivisen hoitotyön perusteet erittäin hyvin. Opiskelija on hyvät valmiudet tunnistaa ja arvioida asiakkaan/potilaan leikkaushoitoon liittyvää hoidon tarvetta.
