Participation and communality in early childhood education (5 cr)

Objective

You get competences to observe and evaluate the needs of an individual child and child groups.
You are able to support the participation of a child in the early years as well as the community-based work culture in day care.
Based on the basic principles of early childhood education, you can plan, actualize and evaluate the activities based on the needs of individual children and child group and that are goal-oriented and pedagogically justified.
You are able to examine early and special support and implement methods of early support.
You are able to examine educational principles of alternative pedagogics in early childhood education.
You are able to carry out the principles of educational partnership when working with families.

How do you realize observation as a work method?
What kind of methods are those promoting child’s participation in early childhood education?
How do you respond to children’s needs in early childhood pedagogy?
What are the methods of early and special support in early childhood education?
What are alternative pedagogies in early childhood education and what kind of pedagogical ideas do they present?
What are the principles of implementation methods of educational partnership?

Evaluation

a. You use professional vocabulary and concepts in an expert way in different situations.
b. You evaluate information sources critically.
c. You work as a team member in working life expert duties and identify and describe the problems of the professional field.
d. You evaluate operations in customer, user and target group situations.
e. You choose appropriate models, methods, software and techniques according to the purpose and justify these choices.
g. You apply critically the ethical principles of the professional field in different situations.

Study forms and methods

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Kurssisuoritus koostuu itsenäisesti ja pienryhmissä tapahtuvasta etä- ja verkko-opiskelusta. Toteutuksen aikataulu ja sisältö tarkentuvat myöhemmin. Toteutuksella hyödynnetään Adobe Connect -verkkokokousjärjestelmää sekä Xamk:n Office 365 -pilvipalveluita.
Opintojakson AC-istunnot pidetään ma20.1. klo 14.30-16.00 (aloitus) sekä esityskerrat: ti 18.2. ja ke 19.2. - nämä molemmat klo 16.30-19.30.
Tarvittaessa AC-istuntojen määrää lisätään opintojakson alkaessa. Tarkemmat ohjeet istuntoihin annetaan kurssin alkaessa.

Opiskelijan työmäärän jakautuminen (5 op) ilmoitetaan opintojakson alkaessa.

Further information

Ensisijaisesti opintojakson toteutus on suunnattu keväällä 2018 tutkinto-opiskelun aloittaneille sekä varhaiskasvatuksen diplomiopintoja suorittaville. Niiden lisäksi huomioidaan ilmoittautuneen opintopistekertymä sekä edeltävyysehtoina olevien kurssien suoritus. Ilmoittautumiset hyväksytään/hylätään lukukauden alkaessa.

AHOTointiin liittyvät kysymykset (hyväksiluku, korvaaminen, opinnollistaminen, näyttö) tulee käsitellä opettajan kanssa edellisen lukukauden aikana.

Perehdy ennen kurssin alkua Adobe Connect -ohjeisiin (https://moodle.xamk.fi/mod/page/view.php?id=706389) ja lataa sovellus laitteellesi. Kurssi edellyttää myös Xamk:n Office 365 -pilvipalveluiden käyttöä eli mikäli sinulla ei ole Xamk:n käyttäjätunnuksia, ota ne käyttöön ennen kurssin alkua.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

a. Osaat käyttää asiantuntevasti varhaiskasvatuksen ammattikäsitteitä.
b. Osaat arvioida käyttämiäsi tietolähteitä kriittisesti.
d. Osaat arvioida toimintaa asiakas-, käyttäjä- ja kohderyhmätilanteissa.
e. Valitset tarkoituksenmukaisesti varhaispedagogiikan toimintatapoja ja menetelmiä ja osaat perustella valintasi. Tiedät millaisia ovat osallisuutta ja yhteisöllisyyttä tukevat käytännöt.
f. Osaat työskennellä tiimin jäsenenä varhaiskasvatuksessa sekä huomata ja kuvata alan ongelmia.
g. Sovellat kriittisesti oman alasi eettisiä periaatteita eri tilanteissa.
