Research methods and scientific communication (5 cr)

Objective

You are familiar with the concepts related to scientific research and know how to apply these to research processes at different stages You can look for information from various sources and use it in the process of writing your bachelor’s thesis as well as for research purposes. You can collect ja analyse data using a qualitative and quantitative research approach as well as present and report the findings. You are familiar with the ethical principles of research.

Content

What are the key concepts related to research? How does a scientific study proceed as a process? How is a qualitative study carried out by using an interview method from the viewpoint of data collection and analysis? How is a quantitative study carried out by using the Webropol software from the viewpoint of data collection and analysis? How are the ethical principles of research taken into account in scientific studies? How do you report on the study?

Study forms and methods

Työviikkopohjainen oppimisväylä:
Opintojakso koostuu 4 opintopisteen tutkimusosaamisen osasuorituksesta ja 1 opintopisteen tieteellisen viestinnän osasuorituksesta.
Tutkimusosuuden osasuoritus sisältää lähiopetusta, ryhmätyöskentelyä sekä itsenäisiä tehtäviä
Tieteellisen viestinnän osuus koostuu lähiopetuksesta sekä tehtävistä.

Työhön integroitu oppimisväylä:
Opintojakso on mahdollista suorittaa itsenäisesti. Tutkimusosaamisen osasuoritus sisältää oppimistehtävän ja harjoitustyön. Itsenäisen tehtävän saadaksesi ota yhteys Helena Timoseen.
Tieteellisen viestinnän osasuorituksen itsenäisestä suorittamisesta sovitaan tieteellisen viestinnän opettajan Tarja Isokäännän kanssa.

Student workload

40 tuntia lähiopetusta ja 95 tuntia itsenäistä työskentelyä.

Further information

Opintojakso tukee opinnäytetyön tekemistä. Opintojakso on siten olennaista aloittaa viimeistään siinä vaiheessa kun opinnäytetyöprosessi käynnistyy.

Assessment methods and criteria

Opintojakson hyväksytty suorittaminen edellyttää
- aktiivista osallistumista lähiopetukseen (50% läsnäolo) ja
- opintojaksoon liittyvien tehtävien hyväksyttyä suorittamista.
Tieteellisen viestinnän osasuoritus arvioidaan hyväksytty-hylätty. Tutkimusosuuden osasuoritus arvioidaan ennakkotehtävien perusteella asteikolla 0-5. Opintojakson kokonaisarvosana määräytyy siten tutkimusosaamisen osasuorituksen arvosanasta.
